Here are some of the questions that you might want to ask us—with our answers. These serve as a guide to help you understand some of the specifics of your projects, and about our approach. Of course, if you have a question that is not listed here, please contact us.
While we'd like to just say 'Go look at our portfolio and then read our client testimonials,' we understand that you might want a bit more information. So here's a few reasons for your consideration.
A web designer is someone who should have a background in graphic design and understands visual layout. A good web designer also has a strong knowledge of current internet technology and understands usability standards and good practices for visitor experience. The web developer uses a variety of programming languages to construct a website and to provide the functionality. A good web developer is skilled at database management and integration, provides cross-browser compatibility, and knows how to effectively separate content, format, and function. And remaining current on best practices for search engine optimization is important. There are designers who do not do the development, and there are developers who do not design. And then there are those who do both.
That question is like asking 'How much does a house cost?' Obviously homes can range in cost from a small condo unit in a bad neighborhood to a mansion in Beverly Hills. So it is with websites. There are just too many variables to consider such as custom graphics, page count, database development, animation, dynamic features, content management, e-commerce needs, social media integration, and much more. An estimate can only be derived from a conversation to determine needs and objectives.
There is a solution that fits almost any budget. Peregrine Design welcomes the opportunity to have a no-cost discussion about your website needs and goals to provide you with a proposal that fits your budget.
Organic Search Engine Optimization (SEO) refers to the techniques used within the code of a website to draw traffic from search engines. These techniques involve some hidden code (meta data) that is not visible when a page is displayed in a browser, and the strategic use of readable text within the viewable area of a page. It also involves proper sitemap generation and registration with major search engines. When these techniques are properly and effectively implemented, page rank from searches can be greatly improved.
Peregrine Design implements careful and comprehensive SEO into every site we build as part of the overall cost. SEO as a stand-alone service is also provided. We work closely with clients to arrive at the best approach for Organic SEO, and provide consultation for non-organic SEO such as building link popularity, ad services, and inbound marketing strategies.
A Content Management System (CMS) is an online application that provides a user with the ability to edit page content using familiar editing tools. Programming skills are not required. There are many options to choose from for different levels of CMS, from a simple editor for a discreet area of a page, to a very powerful and robust application for controlling all aspects of the site.
There are so many CMS solutions already built and readily available (many of them free, open source) that Peregrine Design has chosen not to develop a 'custom' application. In fact, many of the so-called 'custom' solutions from other developers and merely re-branded applications. Our approach is to recommend the best solution for a client depending on their needs and desires for managing their own content. We have experience with most of the popular CMS applications, including Joomla, WordPress, Drupal, Concrete5, Interspire, and more. Any of these solutions can be customized to have a look and feel that fits your business. We also provide the necessary training for any of these CMS applications.
Social Media has forever changed the way people get information to make decisions. It has become a vital part of almost any business' marketing strategy to participate in the appropriate Social Media environments. This means finding out where your customers (or other target audience) are active, 'listening' to what they are saying, and becoming involved in the conversations. All with the goal of promoting your business and driving traffic to your site (which, of course, contains the methods for converting those visitors into customers, right?).
Peregrine Design has the necessary knowledge and experience to assist you with your Social Media Marketing strategy, and the skills to integrate that strategy with your website.
After a meeting at which we gather all the information, we start conceptualizing. We have an internal process of developing ideas which result in one, two, or sometimes three layout concepts to show you. These concepts are only images of an overall design. Functionality and special features are explained with commentary. This initiates the developer/client collaboration phase where a concept is selected for modification. After a final design is chosen, each page will be laid out using the same method of approval. This ensures that the end result will be something that is pleasing to all involved. As pages are approved, they move to the 'development' stage where the design is converted to it's internet-ready format.
We can work at whatever level a client needs. For example, we have developed sites that have been completely designed already, or we have done the design work and passed our design files off to another developer. So the answer to the question depends on what you have or what you can do. If you have photos, we'll use them. If you don't have photos, we have photography experience and can take them for you using high quality equipment—even if your need is professional quality studio shots. If you have copy (text) written, we'll use it. If you need help writing the copy, we can do that for you too! Do you have a logo? We'll take it. Do you need a logo? We can design one for you. So, what we need from you will come from a quick conversation about what you need from us.
